Welcome to Patchwork Farms . . .
Specializing In Lessons For Adults, Kids, and Horses!

Patchwork Farms provides horseback riding lessons for riders of all ages, including young children. Some of our students simply want to learn how to ride and be comfortable out on a trail. Others are headed for the dressage and hunter/jumper show rings. We offer lessons on our wonderful school horses, or you can bring in your own horse. Arrangements can also be made to travel to you and your horse.
We base our riding instruction on the European approach. We teach the student to sit in the saddle and be an effective and safe rider rather than sit on top of the saddle and simply look pretty. We do not rely on arena fences as a teaching aid, instead we use lunge lines, round pen, sub sections of pasture, and eventually Bob Woodruff Park. In addition to teaching from the ground we will also ride along with you to demonstrate riding skills. We specialize in passive riders and also those having had some kind of trauma with their horse.  With our trainer Shelly Vaughn's training as a psychotherapist, there is a strong emphasis on sports psychology.  ( For information about Shelly's work as a psychotherapist, check out her site at www.ShellyVaughn.com/JoyRide.)
Not only do we work with the riders, we also work with the horses.  In addition to the well adjusted horse, we also have extensive experience working with problematic horses and horse rehab (i.e. taking horses off the track and turning them into willing sport horses).
