Shelly Vaughn is an avid horse lover and accomplished equestrian. She owns Patchwork Farms where she trains horses and teaches students in dressage, hunter jumper, and western horsemanship disciplines. She began riding at age 6, competing at horse shows at age 8 and 9, training young horses at age 13. She began instructing students at age 18. Shelly started competing successfully against professionals in the A-rated Quarter Horse shows from age 15. She represented Texas on the Quarter Horse youth team for two years. After college, Shelly  successfully competed on the A-circuit hunter jumper shows, horse trials, and dressage shows. She gave up competition in 1984 to develop joy-ride. She is currently training with Loma Fowler, Lurena Bell, and Barbara Lewis and is returning to competition in dressage and hunter jumper.
